James is famous for a blunt and direct approach as leader of Atlas's military.
He presents a cool exterior combined with an easy charm that he uses to further the good reputation of his Kingdom and to set his friends at ease.
But beneath all that he has a warm and generous heart, one that sees the fall of Beacon as a personal, egregious failure, and prompted him to commission out of his own pocket a top-of-the-line Atlesian prosthetic arm for Yang Xiao Long to replace the one she lost.
He is slow to anger, slow to trust, but harbours a fierce loyalty to both his people and those he calls his friends.

James continued Mantle evacuations for as long as he could before Salem's assault began on Atlas.
He did not shoot Oscar down in the Winter Vault. Cinder's glass queen triggered a bad PTSD flareup in his office, and he retreated into the Vault to try to calm down. Oscar was able to help him ride out the worst of it, and reminded him that unity is the key to defeating Salem.
Clover is alive, comatose, but stable.
The only arrest warrants are for Blake Belladonna and Yang Xiao Long for illegal disclosure of state secrets to persons without clearance.
All of the atrocities and war crimes enacted and ordered by canon Ironwood in Volume 8 have not occurred, including and not limited to: threatening to bomb Mantle, destroying SDC freighters en route to evacuate citizens of Mantle.
